A procedure used to find cancerous or abnormal cells that can become cancerous in the cervix, vagina, or vulva. A colposcopy also looks for other health conditions, such as genital warts or noncancerous growths called polyps. During colposcopy, a lighted, magnifying instrument called a colposcope is used to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva.
